Singapore, May 29, 2009: Benchmark Broadcast Systems are pleased to announce that Bangladesh’s newest, up-coming 24x7 news television station – Jamuna Television Limited – has selected them as systems integrators for their US multi-million dollar TV station. Owned by the Jamuna Group, Dhaka (Bangladesh), Jamuna Television marks the entry of the Jamuna Group into the field of broadcast media. The setup and the workflow have been designed for high speed news production that will give Jamuna TV an edge over its competitors. It incorporates the latest state-of-the-art news gathering and production technologies and will be the first High Definition tapeless broadcast facility in Bangladesh using Panasonic P2HD cameras with AVC Intra for ENG and EFP, Aveco Astra Station Automation with Media Asset Management system, comprising of Front Porch Digital Diva Archive and LTO4 based Tape Library. Apart from being the first TV station in Bangladesh to be completely tapeless, it will be the first with a touch screen Barco 2x4 Video Wall connected with multiple Vizrt Engines used for ‘Live’ presentation; the first Centralized monitoring system; and the first channel to have an 8-Gbps fibre channel network with DataDirect S2A9700 SAN storage subsystem connected to 15 High Definition Craft Edits. The channel has also chosen a complete VIZRT real time graphics solution, Snell glues, Echolab Overture production switchers, the Octopus 6 newsroom system, Ikegami studio cameras, Vertex RSI Earth Station, Advent Communication DSNGs, Quicklink LNG system and Geevs and Omneon servers for ingest and playout. “This is a completely new station. The Jamuna Group evaluated and chose the tapeless environment as part of their set-up after serious evaluation. Since this is file based environment, our Systems Design Group sent the selected file format to all the major vendors to test compatibility for a seamless integration of a set-up of this size,” said Protik Banerjee, Business Development Manager of Benchmark – the broadcaster’s Systems Integrator. Moreover, he went on to say that, in a way, the timing was right because of the global recession. Overall costs as a result of the recession were about 20-25% lower than they would have been under normal economic conditions. The overall total project cost for Jamuna Television will be US$ 13 million Jamuna Television awarded this systems integration project to Benchmark Broadcast Systems (S) Pte Ltd after an extensive and thorough evaluation process. Several factors played a strong role in the decision making process. As, Mr M Nurul Islam, Chairman of the Jamuna Group, said, “We chose Benchmark for several reasons. One was their reputation as professionals and their knowledge and grasp of the latest technologies, systems and equipment. Two, was the way they interacted with our people; the way they made us feel as though they were part of our team. Three, was their workflow which was geared to our needs and not some pre-configured strait-jacket that we would have to adjust to. “ Mr Shamim Islam, Managing Director of Jamuna Television, added, “And, oh yes, we were aware that they’d already put up several TV stations in Bangladesh – on schedule and on budget”. Mr Bilal Aman, Technical Director of Jamuna Television, further said, “Lots of training will be required and while I am taking this as a challenge, what gives me confidence is Benchmark. I have seen how they handled other projects in Bangladesh.”
